Attorney Position

AID Foundation is looking for dynamic and motivated attorneys with an interest in representing American Disabled Individuals to join our Mesa, Arizona office. This is a position with potential to grow into a leadership role at an exciting firm that has made, and will continue to make, a huge difference in the lives of persons with disabilities across the country. It is an opportunity to join one of the foremost civil rights centers with a mission of quickly bringing about a wide range of benefits, as well as unprecedented equal access for millions of American Disabled Individuals and their community across the country.

Candidates need not have extensive disability law experience, though some connection to disability is preferred. The person right for this role is someone who wants to make a long term commitment to a civil rights career, and someone interested in developing and litigating complex cases, with a dynamic personality and the ability to work with members of the disability community.

Excellent writing, organizational and negotiating skills are paramount for this positon.

Ideal candidates should be able to work closely with the lead litigation attorney; however they should be able to work independently on matters such as court appearances, taking and defending depositions, developing and planning class action cases in conjunction with the lead attorney, drafting and revising briefs, negotiating settlements and overseeing implementation of settlement agreements or consent decrees. Applicants must be active members of the Arizona Bar, in good standing, to be considered.

The successful candidate will be able to handle day-to-day work challenges and adjust to multiple demands, priorities and rapid change. This position requires the ability to edit documents in a timely manner with extremely close attention to detail. The applicant must possess excellent proofing and editing skills as well as the ability to function independently and possess good follow through.

Legal Secretary Position

We currently have an opening for a legal secretary. This position requires 5 years of legal secretary experience. Candidates must be able to function in a fast-paced environment. Proven advanced knowledge of Windows 10 and Office 365 to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is a must.

The hours for this position 8:00 to 5:00.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs a wide variety of administrative tasks
  • Arranging for the delivery of legal paperwork
  • Typing correspondence and legal paperwork
  • Transcribing court proceedings and other recorded meetings
  • Scheduling, coordinating and confirming court dates, appointments, and meetings
  • Conducting research in legal matters
  • Maintain calendars and schedules for a number of attorneys
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive and organized billing system
  • Ensure all billable hours are accurately recorded
  • Understand the basics of a number of court documents, such as summons and subpoenas make travel arrangements
  • Arrange for the filing of court documents
  • Composes routine correspondence
  • Maintains filing system
  • Responds to phone calls and emails in a professional manner
  • Develops and maintains smooth working relationships with staff, attorneys and clients
  • Ensures that all documents have been proofread, edited and revised as necessary

The successful candidate will be able to handle day-to-day work challenges and adjust to multiple demands, priorities and rapid change. This position requires the ability to edit documents in a timely manner with extremely close attention to detail. Also required are advanced skills in scheming, styles, delta view, and blacklining. The incumbent must possess excellent proofing and editing skills as well as the ability to function independently and possess good follow through.

Paralegal/Legal Assistant Position

We currently have an opening for a paralegal. This position requires 5 years of paralegal experience. Candidates must be able to function in a fast-paced environment. Proven advanced knowledge of Windows 10 and Office 365 to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is a must.

The hours for this position 8:00 to 5:00.

  • Maintain calendars and schedules meetings in Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Conduct simple Legal Research and Presentations
  • Draft legal documents at the direction of staff attorney
  • Client interviews
  • Prepare and manage data
  • Composes routine correspondence
  • Responds to phone calls and emails in a professional manner
  • Develops and maintains smooth working relationships with staff, attorneys and client
